Maryland Million Hat Contest Returns for 2018

Small Pugh and Judges

Maryland Million Ltd. will partner with Christine A. Moore Millinery – The Official Milliner of Jim McKay Maryland Million Day – and the Alzheimer’s Association – the charitable partner of Jim McKay Maryland Million Day - for the second annual Maryland Million Hat Contest on October 20 at Laurel Park.

Launched in 2017, the Maryland Million Day Hat Contest was deemed a hit! Participants strutted their stuff in front of celebrity judges – Lacey Gaudet (Maryland-based trainer), Karin De Francis (MJC Consultant) and Blake Seidel (co-owner of Christine A. Moore Millinery) – and the winner of each category took home a set of fabulous prizes. Ellen Torres, Director of Development for the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Maryland, served as emcee and Mayor Catherine Pugh stopped by to compete in the Best Ladies’ Hat category.

Christine A. Moore, designer and owner of Christine A. Moore Millinery said, “I am looking forward to our second year partnering with Maryland Million Ltd. for their fantastic racing fashion hat contest! This is a unique American race meet as it features fall looks rather than the usual spring racing attire. I am excited to see all the elegance displayed in rich colors and lush textures!”

"The 2017 Maryland Million Hat Contest was almost as competitive as racing! Many of the hats were one-of-a-kind creations and really reflected the talents and enthusiasm of their makers. It was such a fun experience for the contestants and audience alike,” said Ellen Torres. “We are so pleased to be the charity partner of the Maryland Million. More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's and by 2050, this number could rise as high as 16 million. Through our research and advocacy programs the Alzheimer's Association is racing towards methods of treatment, prevention and ultimately, a cure."

Hat contest pre-registration will begin at 2:00PM outside of the Ruffian Room on the second floor of the Laurel Park Clubhouse. Judging for the three categories – Best Maryland-Themed Hat, Best Ladies’ Hat and Best-Dressed Couple – will begin at 2:30PM. Prizes for the winner of each category include two 2019 VIP tent tickets for Jim McKay Maryland Million Day, a $250 gift certificate from Christine A. Moore Millinery, and Two 2019 Black-Eyed Susan Day premium tickets.
