Roman Chestnut upsets Busher Stakes
Maryland-bred Roman Chestnut, the longest shot on the board, rallied to take the $65,000 Busher Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on Feb. 13 at Aqueduct, paying $93.50 to win. (more)

Former MHBA President Hal C. B. Clagett dies at 93
Hal C.B. Clagett, the former Maryland Horse Breeders Association President who crafted the legislation that created the Maryland-bred Fund in 1962, died on February 1 at the age of 93. (more)

Digger goes gate to wire to win Fire Plug Stakes
Repole Stable’s Digger sped to the lead, turned back the 4-5 favorite, and drew off to a driving victory in the $70,000 Fire Plug Stakes at Laurel Park on Saturday, Jan. 16. (more)

Perrone wins Eclipse Honorable Mention for article in Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred
Honorable mention in the Eclipse Awards competition’s writing – features/enterprise category for 2009 went to Vinnie Perrone for “Life Lived Large – the Tale of Dickie Small,” about the career of Maryland-based trainer Richard W. Small. (more)
